Imperial has a full range of solders designed to suit the assembly or repair requirements for jewellery items made of karat gold, silver and platinum alloys.  The list provided shows the colours and melting classes currently available. Note: All Imperial solders are non-toxic and cadmium-free.

Special attention is focused on maintaining an extra high level of control on the overall composition of the alloys in this group.

Our goal is for you to receive solder that performs consistently order after order.  To that end, extra quality steps are included when processing solders.

Imperial’s standard solder coupon is cut from strip, and is available at the following mass / nominal dimensions:

Karat Gold or Platinum:
approx 1.5 g / piece (12 mm x 0.27 mm x 30 mm long approx.)

Silver:
approx 20 g / piece (40 mm x 0.35 mm x 150 mm long approx.)

Solder wire and lengths of strip can be ordered for some solder alloys – please contact our Customer Service Department for details.

Liquidus
:  The temperature above which an alloy is fully molten.  When heating an alloy this is the temperature at which the slushy state is gone, i.e. the alloy is fully liquid.  On cooling an alloy, this is the temperature at which the slushy state starts to form.  For solders, this is the temperature above which the alloy should readily flow into the join or gap. 

Solidus: The temperature below which an alloy is fully solid.  When heating an alloy this is the temperature at which the metal starts to melt, so a slushy state may start to form for alloys with a melting range.  On cooling an alloy, this is the temperature at which the last part of the slushy state freezes, so the metal is completely solid.

For pure metals and eutectic alloys, the solidus and liquidus temperatures have the same value, which means there is no slushy zone.
